Vitae’s Life Issues Essay Contest Engages Osage Co. Students
Winners Get VIP Treatment at Cardinal Ballgame
(Jefferson City, Mo.) –An essay contest open to certain Osage County students who want to take a stand on life issues like abortion, bullying, elderly and child abuse, etc., is being sponsored by the Vitae Foundation and the Alphonse J. Schwartze Community Foundation. The first place winner will throw out the first pitch at Osage County Night at the Ballpark on July 28, when the Cardinals play the Astros.
“Since Vitae’s mission is to encourage a culture of life through mass communications and reduce abortion numbers, we are looking for youth from Osage County to speak out on any life issue they feel strongly about,” Stacey Kromer, Vitae’s Vice President, stated. “We want our youth to envision with us a future where each life is respected and protected!”
Eligible students who can enter the contest include any 8th – 12th grader attending Osage County R-III (Fatima) Westphalia and 8th graders attending the following schools in Osage County: St. Joseph Catholic School, Westphalia; Sacred Heart School, Rich Fountain; Immaculate Conception School, Loose Creek; Holy Family School, Freeburg; St. George School, Linn; and St. Mary School, Frankenstein.
Contestants must compose an original hand written or typed essay of 500-1,500 words on any life issues topic. One submission per contestant is allowed, and all contestants must be residents of Osage County. All entries should be received at the Vitae Foundation office or postmarked by 5 p.m. on May 20, 2011.
Along with the first place grand prize winner throwing out the first pitch, the second place grand prize winner will get to visit the Cardinals radio/TV booth to meet Mike Shannon and John Rooney on July 28. In addition, four Cardinal game Box Seats will be awarded to the winner of each grade at each participating school (on a mutually agreeable date, excluding Cards/Cubs games).
“We are grateful the Alphonse J. Schwartze Community Foundation is helping us with this writing contest. To get young people excited about life and having the involvement of the St. Louis Cardinals is a wonderful way to engage the youth of Osage County.”
